Historic auction hits record-breaking heights…

In a jaw-dropping auction, Heritage sold a once-in-a-lifetime basketball card featuring Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and Bulls icon Michael Jordan for a staggering $12.932 million. This collectible was part of their Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction on Aug. 23 and 24. Imagine a card so valuable that even the Monopoly Man needed a loan to bid! As expected, the final price smashed the previous sports card record like a basketball through a glass hoop. Before this, the record-holder was a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card sold for $12.6 million. With 82 bidders vying for the prize, the card soared to legendary status.

Other incredible treasures appeared at the auction, such as Mickey Mantle’s 1960 game-worn and signed jersey, which fetched $5.246 million, as well as a 1984 Jordan NBA debut ticket stub, snatched up for a modest $280,600. Heritage did a slam dunk of records! This elementary school gym must have transformed into an Olympic stadium with all these epic sales. Plus, as the auction was on Kobe’s birthday and Mamba Day, it reflected on the superstar’s legacy. Shane Battier even admitted that Bryant was the toughest player to defend. And let’s be honest, defending Kobe is only slightly easier than teaching a penguin to slam dunk.
