Record-Breaking Trading Card Auction…
Over the weekend, Heritage auctioned a 1-of-1 basketball card featuring signatures from the legendary Kobe Bryant and iconic Michael Jordan. During their Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction on Aug. 23 and 24, bidders went as wild as a group of cats chasing laser pointers. The card finally sold for a dizzying $12.932 million, smashing the record for the most expensive sports card. Chris Ivy, Heritage’s Director of Sports Auctions, mentioned it’s the finest modern basketball card on the planet while also giving their auction platform a standing ovation.
Before this jaw-dropping sale, the previous record holder was a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card that sold for $12.6 million in 2022. The Bryant and Jordan card had 82 bidders ready to open their wallets faster than a magician pulls a rabbit out of a hat. Alongside that, other treasures included Mickey Mantle’s jersey for $5.246 million and a Jordan debut ticket for $280,600, all breaking various records. Needless to say, Heritage had quite the memorable payday, as if each bidder powered a rocket straight to the financial stratosphere!
