Shake Milton’s Mixed Bag with the Lakers…

Last December, the Los Angeles Lakers made a bold mid-season trade, acquiring Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton from the Brooklyn Nets, as if they were picking up an unexpected gift at a holiday white elephant party. The Lakers, after a quiet summer in 2024, waited for the right moment – or perhaps an email reminder – to shake things up. While Milton was initially considered as crucial as a surprise cameo in a rom-com, he saw limited time on the court amidst Gabe Vincent’s streaky performances under head coach JJ Redick. As a seven-year journeyman, Milton struggled to settle down faster than a butterfly in a hurricane but did show some scoring and playmaking flashes in his limited appearances.

Milton played 30 games, averaging 3.9 points and a scattering of other stats, which would be akin to expecting a grocery store to deliver a gourmet meal. His highlight was on January 30 against the Wizards, scoring 21 points in a performance so electrifying even light bulbs could’ve flickered with envy. Yet, with Luka Doncic, LeBron James, among others, the Lakers had enough star power to make a solar panel work overtime. When the season ended, Milton’s contract was waived, yet he seamlessly spun over to Serbia’s KK Partizan, proving you can’t keep a good baller still for long.
