A Record-Breaking Auction…

Over the weekend, a remarkable basketball card with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan’s signatures was auctioned by Heritage at their Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction from Aug. 23-24. Picture a card so rare you’d sooner find Bigfoot selling lemonade! This magnificent piece broke records, fetching $12.932 million, the highest price for a sports card ever. Heritage’s Chris Ivy suggested this price reflects not just the card’s quality but also Heritage’s unrivaled platform for collectibles. Previously, a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card held the record with its $12.6 million sale.

82 bidders, as fierce as a band of vikings hunting for shiny things, fiercely competed, skyrocketing this card’s value. Alongside this, other gems like a 1960 Mickey Mantle signed jersey and a 1984 Jordan NBA debut ticket stub made impressive sales. Mantle’s jersey hit a world-record $5.246 million, while Jordan’s stub netted $280,600, both setting new highs. This auction also coincided with honoring Kobe Bryant on his birthday and Mamba Day, a weekend of memories of the five-time champ. Shane Battier admitted in the festivities that Kobe was his toughest defensive opponent, proving once again the legend of the Black Mamba.
